Dean Jack D. Ladd, Esq.

Welcome to the School of Business at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin.  I would like to invite you to explore our website so you can see the amazing programs and opportunities we offer in the School of Business, at UT Permian Basin and in West Texas.

We offer a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in accounting, finance, management, or marketing as well as a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master’s in Public Accountancy (MPA).  This is a very exciting time for the School of Business and UTPB.  I am eager as Dean to share some of the new opportunities at UTPB and in our School of Business.  We have new tracks in Entrepreneurship, Finance, Energy, where students interested in those areas may select additional courses.  Students also have the opportunity for experiential learning through Internships and International Travel Study.  The faculty works closely with the UTPB Career Center and business community representatives to match students with pre-professional experience options.

The Jan and Ted Roden Center for Entrepreneurship has been expanding its outreach activities.  The Center publishes a quarterly newsletter to highlight entrepreneurial activity in the Permian Basin.  In addition, a chapter of Students in Free Enterprise has been established and is supported in part by the center.  Each spring, we participate in the week long EntrepreneurshipUSA Week, a national celebration. In summer 2009, we host our second Entrepreneurship Boot Camp for area high school students.  The Center is hosting an event honoring family businesses in the Permian Basin. Commercialization activities are supported by the Center's membership in the Alliance for the Commercialization for Innovate Energy.  Students are also afforded the opportunity to join in our Lunch with an Entrepreneur Series.

We are proud that the School of Business at UTPB is one of only approximately one-third of all schools of business in the nation that is accredited by the prestigious Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB).  To achieve this accreditation, our school of business has to achieve the highest standards of academic excellence including rigorous standards for our faculty and learning outcomes for our students.

The Industrial Technology Program housed in the School of Business as well as our Engineering offerings, has also been growing exponentially as student enrollment has more than doubled in the past two years. We have a new degree in Mechanical and Mechanical/Nuclear Engineering, which is now housed in our School of Business.  These programs as well as all of our traditional Business programs have a tremendous impact on the petroleum industry as well as alternative energy, including wind and nuclear, in West Texas and beyond. Our graduates are taking their places in these exciting career areas.

Our mission is to offer both undergraduate and graduate educational programs that are not only of high quality, but that evolve with our ever changing economy.  We believe our students are afforded every opportunity to attain the highest quality education and are prepared to make a positive impact on the business world. A  major contributor to students' success is their direct interaction with highly qualified faculty.  The faculty possesses a wide background of industry experience and a network of business contacts.  In addition, they continue to develop personally through consulting and research activities which enhance classroom teaching.

As the School of Business grows, student body diversity has increased.  Our most rapid growth lies in traditional freshman, those right out of high school, but we continue to have many non-traditional students.  These students commute to campus from Odessa and surrounding cities and may already have careers and families.

I am pleased that you are interested in the School of Business and invite you to come to campus and visit us.
We look forward to serving you and seeing you as part of our School.
