Biography:

Dr. Rachel Martin Harlow teaches Business Communication and Advanced Technical Communication for the Energy Industry.  She has also taught Public Speaking at UTPB.

Dr. Harlow completed a Ph.D. in Technical Communication and Rhetoric from Texas Tech University in 2005, and an M.A. in Speech Communication, with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Public Affairs, from Texas A&M University in 2001.  Her research focus is on technical communication in the public sector, as well as on methods of study and practice in technical communication.  Her M.A. coursework and thesis dealt with the role of rhetoric in nontechnical public-sector communication.

 In addition to significant teaching experience in face-to-face and online formats, Dr. Harlow also brings industry experience in technical writing as a consultant to and trainer for a Fortune 100 oil and gas company in Houston, Texas, and as a contractor for the U.S. State Department, designing an English-language course for foreign nationals abroad.  She also brings significant intercultural experience, having lived in Mexico City; Abuja, Nigeria; El Paso, Texas; and now Odessa, Texas.
